… about to head off to the Cotswolds next week to shoot a story with the team at work inspired by ‘the modernists’, and was set to thinking about the design tour de force that was French architect and designer Charlotte Perriand.

Oh, and while we’re on the subject… Ilse Crawford’s take on this wonderful, classic Artek Armchair 400 would always be welcome in my home. Just perfectly pure.

Today, this chair pleases me… Apparently it’s from Anthropologie.

Nicole Fabres Crocus design is simply one of my favourite fabrics, period. Yep, it’s very ‘traditional’, but take a closer look – the colouring is sublimely delicate and actually rather off-beat with its lilacs and sea greens. I have one treasured piece at home as my cushion on our simple, modern, peat-grey sofa and it sits perfectly happily against a modern silhouette as much as it would upholstered onto a pretty antique.

While I may be hopelessly addicted to colour and pattern, there’s also a side of me that needs the simplicity of stone, metal, concrete, glass, wood. These designs by Faye Toogood and her creative consultancy are great examples.
